- “That’s just part of getting old”
- “Nothing’s good for you”
These are all things I hear people accept as reality. They believe that it’s normal to be tired, sick and unable to do absolutely everything they wish. We’ve been so conditioned to not question anything that we accept a fate of daily pills and numerous surgeries to survive. It’s become acceptable to deteriorate as we age. Normal to be unable to take care of ourselves toward the later years of our lives. I didn’t accept this as truth. It is NOT truth.
The truth is that we’ve done it to ourselves. Currently, 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer. If that isn’t a terrifying statistic, I don’t know what is. Everything we’ve become accustomed to is harmful. We would like to think that the people in charge would never allow anything harmful in our stores or in our children’s food or products. The unfortunate truth is that these people in charge are simply that, people. People like me and you, doing the best they can with the knowledge they have currently on hand. We can’t rely on others to take care of us. We have to learn to take care of ourselves.
What excuses are you holding onto?
- “I don’t have time to cook”
- “I don’t have time to exercise”
- “I’m too tired to do anything”
- “I’ve tried everything and nothing works”
- “It’s hard”
These are all excuses I’ve heard about why people don’t put forth the effort to get healthy. That’s all they are though, excuses. And how lucky are we?! Because excuses can be overcome. They can be beaten into submission by us because they don’t rule us. We Rule us and we have the power to accomplish anything that we wish!
In a world where everyone is telling you how to look, how to eat, how to exercise and how to live with conflicting information, it can be really overwhelming trying to figure out exactly what you’re suppose to do. It’s not your fault if you’d tried unsuccessfully. You deserve a medal for trying! And another because you’re here, which means you’re not giving up! The truth is, of the hundreds of different ways to do everything, they are all correct and they are all incorrect. It depends on you, your body, lifestyle and what works for YOU.
The secret is to individualize your routine. You’re not made like everyone else. You are completely unique to you. Which means we have to find what works for you as an individual. No one thing works for everyone.
Statistically, most people who diet end up gaining everything they lose back afterwards and in many cases, more. This is because diets don’t work. Lifestyle changes do. You can’t expect to make temporary changes and have lasting results. The goal should be to make long standing habits that stay with you for a lifetime. Permanent changes for permanent results.
It can get overwhelming though, trying to eliminate the bad that we are accustomed to and replace it with good things that are completely new concepts to us. To live a healthy lifestyle fully, most of us have to go against everything we’ve ever known. The key is to make small changes, a little at a time so that you are not overwhelmed and can become accustomed to new habits easily. Slowly stacking these small positive habits and crowding out the bad ones provides a natural flow to lifestyle changes. You can’t throw out everything in your kitchen and completely restock it with healthy things. Not only would that be incredibly expensive, but also quite wasteful.

How I became a Buddha of my own Body
When I was 15, I passed out in Geometry class one morning. I was diagnosed with Rebound Hypoglycemia, a form of pre diabetes. From there on out, I couldn’t get too hot without passing out. I couldn’t be outside very long or do much physical activity. People were always worrying over me and I felt weak and useless.
As I got older, I got use to it. It was simply part of who I was. I also began to notice that being sickly was normal. I didn’t accept this as normal. It didn’t make any sense to me that sickly was average. Nature evolved to improve, not degrade. It had to be something we were doing. So I began studying. Everyone was always so concerned about weight loss. Which is definitely a step in the right direction, but it goes deeper than that. We should be concerned about health. When you focus on health, weight loss is a side effect. Other side effects are stamina, energy, strength, nice hair and glowing skin. A bonus side effect for me? Curing my rebound hypoglycemia! I haven’t had a spell in years and I do all sorts of yard work in the humid 100+ degree Alabama Summer weather!
